Belgorod-Dniestrovsky Fortress Tour with a Visit to Shabo Winery
On this Belgorod-Dniestrovsky fortress tour with a visit to Shabo winery we’ll drive outside Odessa. The Belgorod-Dniestrovsky fortress is the largest medieval fortress in Ukraine. It was the last outpost of Christians after the fall of Constantinople on the Black Sea. You’ll see the remains of the town, founded by the ancient Greeks on the picturesque shores of the Dniester estuary. We’ll share with you exciting legends of the area and explore traces of different cultures.
The tour continues with a visit to the Shabo wine factory, founded in 1821 by the Swiss colonists. The guided excursion to the wine factory and the only in Ukraine center of wine culture will introduce you to the history of local wine making from the times of the ancient Greeks to modern days. You’ll see century old Swiss cellars, once visited by the famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and King Carol ll of Romania and modern wine making facilities. Above all, you’ll certainly sample a selection of local wines.
During the trip to Akkerman and Shabo, we’ll drive through Odessa’s region: you’ll see local villages and agricultural fields, the picturesque Black Sea coast with Soviet time and modern resorts (we’ll make a quick stop and walk to the coastline to have a look at the open Black Sea), the Dniester estuary and the point where it connects with the Black Sea, vineyards and the town of Belgorod-Dnestrovsky.
