This is the “must do” walk, miss it and you’ve missed Odessa. For Odessa Through the Centuries tour takes you through two hundred years of the city’s history. Worried that you will spend an hour and a half listening to a monotonous lecture packed with boring facts, stats and people’s names? Not at all! The city’s past is a cocktail of funny stories cast in stone and we take it all in: how Odessa’s iconic sight appeared and why it was called Potemkin Steps, why the statue to the French prime-minister was erected on the donations of the Odessa’s poor and rich and has become a symbol of Odessa; the city’s beating heart of all times – Primorsky boulevard and its secrets.

Odessa has a little bit of secret history, which we’ll crack during this walk. We’ll take you through the old neighborhood of the city center. Its concealed streets and courtyards are keyholes into Odessa’s past, harboring everything from traces of the city legends to a forgotten well, the only source of so precious back then drinking water in that area. It’s old, vintage Odessa, full of character and off the beaten track passageways that take you into the time of Odessa’s golden age.

We’ll explore the secrets and splendors of Odessa’s main attractions and sneak a peek behind the facades of the historic landmarks. We’ll walk through Odessa’s old quarters and the past will suddenly rise to the surface, skillfully told by a great guide.

You may rightfully say that you can see it all by yourself… We’ll dare argue with that – each sight in Odessa is an exciting mix of anecdotic stories hidden behind a splendid architectural facade. To hear the stories is to experience the city. Enjoy!

Meeting point: the tour starts at the statue of Duke de Richelieu on top of the Potemkin Steps.

Customer Reviews

“… We are adept of guided walking tours and this one can be rated amongst the best even though it is shorter than the average! We specially appreciated to go into a private courtyard to see how middle class people lives more than 100 years ago.
Having known , we would have also taken other tours offered by Odessa Walks such as the one about the foreign settlers!“
