PRIVOZ MARKET AND MOLDAVANKA TOUR
Moldavanka tour and Privoz market. Visit Odessa’s famous Privoz market and sample local food. Tour enchanting Moldavanka neighborhood, made famous by Isaac Babel’s Tales of Odessa.
This is a very fun and interesting private walking tour. We’ll start Moldavanka tour with a visit to the famous Privoz market, called by the locals Odessa’s “stomach”. Strolling through its food pavilions we explore local eating habits, see the variety of regional foods and watch Odesseans shop. The most adventures tour guests will have a chance to savor a selection of home-made sausage from a Ukrainian village, cottage and feta cheese (aka “brinza”) from a Bulgarian village and Black Sea sardines.
From Privoz we’ll walk to Moldavanka. Famous for its courtyards and red cats (and we’ll see a lot of them), Moldavanka is often perceived as a Jewish ghetto of the 19th century Odessa. Is it true? How did this neighborhood appear and developed? Why did it get a criminal flavor? We’ll learn all sides of this neighborhood during the 3-hour Moldavanka tour.
We’ll stroll the Moldavanka’s main avenues and sneak a peek behind the façade’s of the buildings, we’ll check courtyards with a symbol of Moldavanka, an old dovecoat, and visit the Jewish hospital.
And we certainly follow in the footsteps of Isaac Babel’s characters and explore Moldavanka sights described in his Tales of Odessa.
